Annie had a tough
life until she was rescued from a high kill shelter in Louisiana in
early June 2010. She was surrendered to the shelter because her
owner simply didn’t have time for her. According to the shelter
worker, the young owner thought partying was far more fun than caring
for her dog. When I first met, Annie she was so happy and loved
getting all of the attention. I had a feeling that Annie was
pregnant or had a few litters in the recent past. The conditions
of this shelter were horrible and there was no way that I could leave
without Annie so this is where Annie’s story begins.

Once I got her home,
she got a much needed bath which she wagged her tail and gave me kisses
the whole time. Then it was a trip to the vet to confirm that she
was indeed pregnant and heartworm positive. Knowing that she was
not in the best of health and heartworm positive, I decided to have her
spayed for her own health. I took her in to be spayed on June 14th
and received a follow up call that Annie did great and is recovering
well and that she has a premature puppy. Apparently she was
further along than they had originally thought. Annie had 3
puppies of which one wasn’t developed and didn’t make it, the other had
to be put down because it was severely deformed and the third one,
Gracie is doing great. In the past 6 weeks, Annie has really
blossomed into a wonderful dog. The first few days were a little
touch and go but once she learned that foster mom’s dogs weren’t going
to hurt her – life has been great.

Annie loves to play with the other
dogs and loves to empty the toy box -- something I don’t think she ever
had in her past life. Annie is approximately 2 years old and
approximately 40 lbs. She completed her heartworm treatment and is
up-to-date on all of her shots. Annie has quickly learned what life can
be like and only hopes that it can continue on as well as it has for the
past 6 weeks.

Once
you meet Annie, you won’t want to leave without taking her with you!
Annie has a tremendous amount of love to share - don’t you want to
share your love with her!

Gracie (Annie’s baby)
This little girl came into this world under the worst of circumstances.
Her mother Annie went to be spayed and was further along and the vet
thought. Gracie was the only surviving puppy. From the beginning, she
has fought to live. Annie was able to care and nurse for the first few
days and after that Gracie had to supplemented with bottle feedings.
Since Gracie is a singleton, I have made a point to include her with all
of my dogs so that she can learn some puppy manners and is well
socialized. Gracie doesn’t know that she is a little brown dog since
she has 3 Sheepdogs mothers that take care of her. She loves to play
with Max, the newest foster as well as the other dogs. She is like any
typical puppy feisty, sassy and curious about her surroundings.

Gracie and Max
She is truly a “Grace of God” and I could literally watch and play with
her all day long. Gracie is 6 weeks old and growing like a weed.
Gracie is being crated trained now and is doing very well. She has
been given her first round of shots and received a great bill of health
despite her rough entrance into this world.
