"Barney" was reported to be an Old English Sheepdog who had been held for a month at the shelter.  It was a Saturday and "Barney's" last day on earth.  We had only until noon to save him.  We got there at 10:00 AM.  "Barney" had been picked up as a stray in North Texas and smelled so bad that we all had our heads out the car window as we drove away.

A 10 mile ride to our daughter's home and a driveway shampoo not only cleaned up "Barney" but we soon discovered that "Barney" wasn't a "Barney" at all ... but a girl and we renamed her "Bonnie".

Well, Bonnie didn't quite look like an Old English Sheepdog, either.  The veterinarians discovered an implanted microchip in her shoulder that revealed the Bonnie is half Old English Sheepdog and half Airedale Terrier and was born in Utah almost exactly 1 year before we rescued her.

Bonnie was a 1 year old ball of puppy energy.  We fostered her for several months.  She was adopted twice but the adoptions didn't work out.  Well, by this time we loved Bonnie too much to give her up.  Besides, Bonnie is by far the smartest dog Donna and I have ever had anything to do with so Bonnie is now a permanent member of our family.  She is the most loyal and affectionate dog anyone could ever hope to have.  She loves walks on our property and thinks automobiles were made especially for her to ride in.

She also has a gentle side.  When we rescued a tiny kitten out of a tree, she adopted "Rosa".  Cleans her, carries her around and protects her.  Bonnie is an amazing dog and we are lucky to have her.
