Bob & Laurie wrote: We don’t know who came out the furthest ahead in this adoption, so we’ll call it a draw. However, personally speaking, our lives are even more complete now that Missy (aka Miss Daphne) has become one of our family. We attended our first Texas OES Rescue annual picnic a few weeks ago where we met a wonderful group of association volunteers, fostering and adopting families, and more OES as a group than we’ve ever been with before. We had offered our professional assistance to the association, and with two previously adopted OES, Raleigh and Harry, a pending move, a new job, we really weren’t thinking of adopting another. That was, of course, until we were introduced to “Missy.” With the most gentle face and eyes, loving disposition, ears that loved being rubbed, and a few hundred chin licks thrown in for good measure, this little beauty stole our hearts. When I saw Laurie with Missy, gently patting her, talking to her, and sharing affection for one another, I knew she wanted Missy as well. When it was time to leave, licks and loving touches sealed the bond. We knew we had to apply for Missy’s adoption. Our adoption application was approved and Cindy and Terre brought Missy to our home one week later. Missy was introduced to Harry and Raleigh and they became close “siblings” almost instantly. The boys love having a little sister to protect and stir up mischief with, and she loves having two big brothers to play with. All three have adjusted well. It’s as if she’s always been a part of our family. Bob has worked with Miss Daphne on territorial issues and now when the gate is left open she ignores it and remains in the yard. She knows where home is. Off lead she returns when called (after some selective hearing issues), so we are definitely making progress. Miss Daphne is very happy with us and we are with her. She receives a lot of love, care and attention, as do the boys. Life with Miss Daphne is a joy. We are thankful to Texas OES Rescue for putting us together. |
