Hello everyone,

Sherry said it was about time I
sent a note to the OES Happy Tails department to let everyone know what is going on in our lives. It will be two years in August since I got adopted and the time has flown by with many things happening. There was a divorce last summer so it's just Sherry, the two cats, and me now. We still live in the same house so I didn't have to move again.  Sherry's son, Derek, is getting married in June and everyone is very happy and busy with wedding plans.  There was a bridal shower the day of the OES picnic so we didn't get to go.  We hope to be there next year.

Last time I wrote I said we were going on a road trip to Montana and we did just that.  Sherry and I drove to Big Sky, MT, early in August and we stayed until the middle of September at our condo.  Sherry took this photo of a moose as we drove through the Tetons on the way there.  I had never seen a moose and I barked like crazy.  As I was in the car, I was safe, however.

The picture above shows the way I spent lots of time.
The weather was so nice and cool and I let Sherry know when I wanted  to go out there by just getting in her  face.  She would ask me, "What do you want?" and I'd run to the to the deck door. It worked every time.

I also enjoyed just resting on my bed. Sherry
took all of my things to Montana.  She said it was like packing when you travel with a baby.  Hey, I resent that! I’m a big girl! We took long walks and I adjusted to the much higher altitude easily. We also went on ots of car trips to Yellowstone Park and other wonderful places.  I was very good so I always got to go. I saw so many interesting animals.

Sherry's daughter, Daiquiri, and her granddaughter,
granddaughter Sterling, visited and we hiked to Ousel Falls.
It was beautiful!

On the way back to Texas we drove through
McCook, NE, where I was born.
Sherry took a photo of the sign for my scrapbook.  We also drove through Rock Springs, WY, where she was born.  So we did a lot of memory collecting.   I am very happy in my forever home.

Love, Kaylee

March 1, 2007  Letter from Kaylee

Hello fellow sheepies and your people,

I wanted to send an update on my life since being adopted 7 months ago.  Life is great here in Missouri City.  The last time I wrote I was anticipating going to Montana for a few weeks.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to go, but Sherry says we'll go later in the summer and I'll go then.  It'll be a road trip so that will be fun.

I think the cats and I are getting along okay.  I try to get games going with one of them, but she still insists on batting at me and hissing.  Sherry heard thundering up the stairs one day and thought I was chasing the cat.  Imagine my embarrassment when she saw it was the cat chasing me.  She said it was ridiculous that a 10 pound cat was chasing a 65 pound dog.  Oops!  The other cat ignores and avoids me.

Sherry takes me on a 2 or 3 mile walk every day that the weather allows and sometimes we go for a quick mile before bedtime.  I love walking and seeing the sights in the neighborhood. Besides it's good for my figure.  I also get to go in the car sometimes when there are errands to run and I've been to two different dog parks.

I know Sherry is the "leader of our pack" and expects me to wait for her to go in or out of the door first, stop when she stops on our walks, and not decide when it's time to get up in the morning.  I like following the rules because I get lots of attention, cuddles, and treats. However, I did get busted the other day as you see from the photo where I was caught sleeping on a couch.  That is a major no-no around here.

My hair has grown out and I'm quite happy with the look.  I really like being brushed.  Baths aren't too much fun but I know I have to have one occasionally.

I look forward to seeing some of you at the annual picnic.

Love, Kaylee

August 12, 2006

Hello everyone,

I came to a new location to live with Rich and Sherry in Missouri City, TX on August 4th and my name is now Kaylee (sort of like being in a witness protection program).  I don't mind because I'm now in my fur-ever home.

All the kids are grown so it's just Rich, Sherry, me, and two four-legged things they call cats.  Their names are Patches and Cassie.  They don't know what to think of me as I'm the first dog they've ever seen, but hey, the feeling is mutual.  I'm not sure I ever saw a cat before.  They have been slow to come out of hiding but when they do they sometimes make a hissing sound at me that is a bit scary.  I back off because I'm not sure what might follow the hissing.  Sherry said they don't have claws as they are house kitties. Can't they tell I'd be an excellent face washer or back scrubber?  This big pink tongue can cover a lot of territory.  I’m sure we'll be friends soon if I'm patient.

Sherry takes me for a two mile walk early every morning.  That's fun as she lets me explore a bit.  However, when we come to an intersection she expects me to sit down and wait for her to give the command to cross the street.  She also wants me to sit down before she gives me a treat.  It only took about once to learn that lesson because I like treats.  I never know when she might give me one so I'm sweet all the time.  I have noticed, however, she always gives me one at bedtime and after my bath

We're going on a road trip soon.  Rich and Sherry are taking me to Montana for a few weeks.  They say the weather is cooler there so I'm excited about that.  I really don't like going outside in this heat and only go whenever necessary, if you know what I mean.

They said there are a lot of big dogs living with their neighbors in Montana so I'll be making some new friends.  That'll be fun!

That's all for now.  I'll write more after we're back from Montana and maybe I'll have some neat photos of me in the mountains.

Love, Kaylee

P.S. from Sherry

We are so happy Kaylee came to live with us.  Our other sheepie died about 5 years ago and it was time to brighten our lives with another one.  Kaylee is an absolute delight.  She follows us all over the house and takes a snooze wherever we are.  I think she probably misses her "foster" brothers, Beamer and Bentley, but we're trying to give her all the playful exercise she needs.  She is smart, very well behaved and eager to please.
