Mac was literally "off the streets of Houston" when he came into the Program.  He was initially a "fear-biter" (ask his foster Mom Sherrie!), and was fostered for about 3-1/2 months before this wonderful application came in from Wayne.

Even after emails from Sherrie to Wayne describing Mac's past indiscretions, Wayne still wanted to adopt him.

Sherrie met Wayne on 5/26/01, half-way between S.A. and Houston.  She had told him before in phone conversations, and repeated it at their meeting:  "I have worked with Mac all this time, I can kiss him on his nose, but I can't get him to give me a big ole sloppy kiss."

A bit later, Wayne was sitting on the ground and called Mac over to him.  Mac sat down in front of him, reached forward and gave Wayne a "big ole sloppy kiss" on the face.

Although Sherrie had always had good feelings about this adoption, she knew then that the bonding had happened immediately, and Mac had found his "forever home."

Sherrie,

Well things just couldn't be MORE WONDERFUL.  We are in heaven and I hope
Mac is too.  He has been the perfect gentleman, extremely affectionate, slept
right beside my bed all night long and loves to nap in it when I'm not home.
I had to leave him home last night for about 45 minutes and was pretty
worried to return home and see what I had found..... NOTHING.   He has been
great, wonderful with the other dogs, surprisingly, not an ounce of jealousy
on anyone's part; I have been very careful with affection with all involved.
One note of concern, he didn't finish his food, I'm thinking maybe he just
doesn't feel any competition to do so all at once, but I'll keep watching,
other than that, happy as a lark.  will keep you updated, and again, Thanks
for everything.

and another great one from Wayne:

Sherrie,

Just thought I'd continue to let you know how things are going..  GREAT.
Starting to pick up on Mac's strange little habits , etc.  He's so funny.  He
is my shadow, I mean I can't go to the restroom, fridge, the phone, anywhere,
he's right there.   He loves being outdoors here on the farm.  Today he
proved that his herding abilities are still very much intact.  I have a herd
of geese that live here on the property, the big barnyard type, and I guess
he had never seen them before..... WOW... he began to herd and it was
madness.  Those poor geese were so tired by the time i finally got him under
control, which meant taking his collar because he turned a deaf ear to me. My
roomate thought I would scold Mac but instead I said, "my goodness, have you
ever seen a dog with such good herding abilities!"  This he thought was
hilarious as it just proved the fact that Mac is never wrong and when he does
mess up, it's my fault.  LOL.
We've had one incident of Mac getting in the garbage but come on, I threw
the leftover breakfast bacon in it.   If I were a dog i would have seized
this opportunity myself.  The first couple of days I was grooming every time
we came inside, this took up a good 5 hours of my day LOL, so now I just
decided that he can get as dirty and rumpled as he wants all day and we clean
and groom before bedtime.  Which by the way, did I tell you how much he loves
his waterbed?  he was born for it.
Lastly, I have entered him in the San Antonio Pridefest Doggie Parade, he
seems fine with this as I am sure if he were a republican, we wouldn't have
bonded this quickly LOL.

All for now,
Wayne
