TEXAS OES RESCUE folks are proud to have assisted NEOESR in the placement of Otis.

Dear Rescue Folks of NEOESR:

Otis has now been with us a little over a month. When we took him to the vet, he was diagnosed with arthritis. The vet appointment was on a Friday and by Sunday night we had to tell him to settle down! The medicine was really working well. Now we only give it to him on an “as needed” basis. Our vet said that he can’t tell if the nose and ear are birth defects, or if in fact they are from him being attacked. He also told us that he’s under weight, which we already knew, and to feed him four times a day until he reaches his goal weight. Otis’s heartworm test came back negative; at least we got some good news from that visit.

Otis has settled down perfectly in his forever home. One of the things he loves to do is eat. He runs like a bunny down the hall into our bedroom and waits for me to place the bowl in between his front legs, as he lays down to eat.

He also loves his treats, and knows where they are and when he gets them. He is learning from Puffer and Butters that when you go No 2; you get a treat when you get back into the house.  His favorite hangouts are, on the couch (surprise!), under the dining room table and under our bed. Our bed is so high that Otis can’t comfortably jump up, so I sleep on the floor with him. He sleeps next to me all night, or he goes under the bed. Sometimes I get kisses from him in the middle of the night. Marc sleeps on the bed with Puffer and sometimes Butters, so the bed is full anyways. I think we might buy a king size mattress and put it on the floor so Otis can jump into bed and we might all fit.

Otis likes to roll around in the back yard, if I am there with him. I think he believes he’ll get run over by Puffer and Butters if I’m not there to “protect” him. When Marc takes all three of them out, Otis hangs out by the back door. I guess he doesn’t feel safe without his mom.  Otis follows me every where, I can’t take a shower or go to the bathroom without him following me.  After I come home from work, he sticks to me as if he was a part of me. When I have to leave anywhere, he waits by the front door until I come home. He knows when I leave in the morning there’s no point in waiting by the door because I’ll be gone for so long, but once I get home he knows I’m only gone for a little while.

We feel very fortunate to have Otis in our lives.  He fits in our family perfectly.  I recommend for everyone to check out the sheepie rescue services, there are some awesome sheepies out there looking for good homes.

Thank you for reading about our family.

Sheepie hugs,
Tarja, Marc, Nicole, Alicia, Puffer, Butters & Otis
