It was only last year that
Pumpkin attended the Annual TXOESR Picnic with her uprights, Dee and Walt.
Tragically, she went to Rainbow Bridge 3 weeks after the Picnic. This page
is dedicated to her memory.
Dee composed the following poem
about Pumpkin,
and read it at the "Celebration of Life" ceremony at this year's Picnic.
ODE TO PUMPKIN
It took five months of nagging by Tanya and Walt,
Before I gave in to them and it came to a halt.
We then searched the papers for an OES
‘Til we found the pup that suited us best.
The sweet, clumsy black and white ball of fluff,
Ran, played and bounced ‘til she huffed and puffed.
Then she’d put her chin on one of our laps,
And stare at us to cuddle, so she could take her nap!
Pumpkin grew and grew into a 92-pound shep,
Who kissed and entertained everyone she met.
She visited the schools, the youth groups and such,
Tanya made her Halloween costumes that were a bit much!
She swam daily in the pool, helped teach our grandson to
swim,
Life with Pumpkin was never dim.
She flew from Arizona to Pennsylvania and learned about snow,
Then flew to Houston to live where we had only toys to throw.
Pumpkin was lonesome with no kids or a pool,
Just mom and dad - -a couple of old fools!
Along came Donna and Steve and the Texas Rescue OES,
And a sweet pup named Sophie of which we were blessed.
Pumpkin housebroke the pup and they spent hours at play,
They raced and they ran ‘til the end of her days.
Last year at this time Pumpkin ran around these trees,
And swam in the cold creek and dried in the breeze.
Shortly thereafter Pumpkin went to the Rainbow Bridge for Pets,
Where she scampers in the sunshine and watches it set.
We miss Pumpkin and all the special animals there,
Thank you, dear Pumpkin for your loyalty and care.
