Come celebrate with us the lives of our best friends.

We welcome you to submit pictures and stories
about your best friends who have traveled to Rainbow Bridge
and who are patiently awaiting your arrival.

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

We hope that George’s legacy will be that he broke every “old dog” stereotype, remaining energetic, eager to learn, and, of course, full of the legendary Old English Sheepdog love of life. It would be lovely if his example could be used to help other senior dogs, because they are so often the ones who are passed over at adoption time. Older dogs are treasures who often have extra happy years still to live. Tragically and unfairly, they suffer the same age discrimination that older people do. George was an inspiration to us and to all who had the privilege of knowing him in his very active golden years. We wish for other senior rescues the same happy possibilities.

Lucy

In mid August 2011, our baby Lucy passed away unexplained while we were on vacation.  Our kids are heartbroken and not sure if I have it in me to start over with another baby pup.

It is with such immense sadness that I share with you the passing of our beloved Winston on August 25, 2011.  We rescued Winston from Texas OES Rescue in November, 2005 from foster parents Steve and Donna. Thanks to Steve and Donna, Winston is one of the dogs that was featured in Louisa Adams book "Caring for your Rescue Dog".
We flew in from Maryland on November 10, 2005 and stayed the night with Steve and Donna, who could not have been more hospitable.  I will never forget the moment we pulled up to their house that evening and were greeted by our forever angel, Winston.  He came up to me as soon as we entered the gate and walked his new "Mom" up to the house.  The bond formed immediately and grew stronger every day.     We enjoyed a delicious home cooked Texas BBQ dinner and a wonderful evening including a nice long walk with the dogs on their beautiful property.  Winston happily got into our rental car the next morning and we began our journey back across the country to his new home in Maryland.    He filled our lives with such joy and happiness.  There was no where I would rather be than in his company, and I spent the majority of my time with him.  He was my best friend, my angel, and I have a hole in my heart the size of Texas with him gone.  Steve told me when we were in the adoption process that Winston was a very special boy and had a special place in his heart of all the rescues he and Donna had fostered.   I understood immediately, when I met Winston, just what Steve meant.
I'm sure Steve and Winston had a joyful reunion and are smiling down on us.

Queen La Tonka

My beautiful Queen La Tonka went to Rainbow Bridge June 23, 2011.  What a journey we had. Tears may last for a moment but memories will last forever.

Harry

1999-2011
On Monday, May 23rd, Harry left us and joined his family and friends at the Rainbow Bridge. Old age finally took its toll. All day he lay in the shaded grass a distance from our home, not wanting to move or eat. We sat by his side for hours knowing his time was near. After we had withdrawn to the house late in the evening we heard barking at the front door. There was Harry. He needed to be with his family. We carried him into the foyer where he spent his last few hours. His full mouth grin, welcoming family and friends at the front door with sofa pillows, greeting us as we drove up the long driveway, and his total lack of any degree of coordination will always bring us joy in remembrance.

TXOESR sends Laurie and Bob our deepest
sympathy for their loss.

On behalf of Texas OES Rescue please accept our sincere condolences for your loss.  I am truly sorry to hear of Lulu's passing!  Cindy

Our Rescue Dog LuLu passed away Sunday evening December 19,2010. The vet discovered a tumor on her heart this summer and said it would be any day, we are so glad it was months. She was the best dog and friend and  our family is very sad. We rescued her from your organization about 6 years ago, I have never seen her on the happy tails page. Possibly one day we can rescue another OES.

Thanks for all that you do....

Elissa

Chester went to Rainbow Bridge on December 8, 2010

Chester was rescued and fostered by Bob and Laurie in November of 2006 when he was about 3 years old. Because he had been neglected, was severely undernourished, and suffering from skin disease he was initially suspect of anything with two or four legs. However, with heavy doses of love and attention, “prepared meals, and the companionship of three other OES his trust slowly developed, his health improved almost daily, and he began the transition to a loving and funny OES. Chester had his uniquenesses. He expressed his love by hugs from behind with paws over your shoulders, a preference to walk on sidewalks and driveways instead of grass, would hide and peer through tall grass, and after greeting you would walk ever so slowly in front of your car when you came home. Although his time with us was short he was part of the family. He loved and was loved and will always be missed. Chester now rests next to his friend Raleigh.

Just wanted you to know that Falcor, our 6 yr old baby that we rescued from Sally has gone to the rainbow bridge.  Thought maybe that his two brothers that were adopted out might be interested to know that he fought a very hard fight to beat cancer, but it beat him in the end.  We adopted him Father’s Day, six years ago.  He was the light of our home and we miss him incredibly.
