Tweak OES Male Posted March 25, 2007 |

Tweak, who was once named Max, has now been with us for about a month. We named him Tweak because there seemed to be so many pups named Max, and Tweak is a cartoon character who is always hyped up on caffeine. It really fits him.

After the passing of my second rescue,
Hank (also from TXOESR) just after Christmas, I was in no hurry to add
another to the household. Earlier this past summer we also had to make
the decision to PTS my beautiful German Shepherd. I was still very sad
and I had my sweet Norma (OES, dog pound rescue) to heal my heart.
I happened to be lurking around the rescue websites, ( I am also a
member of NEOESR) always interested in what's going
on, and realized that Tweak had been on the Texas website for
about a month. I thought that perhaps this pup had some "issues"
since most rescues, even if they make it to the website, don't
seem to last that long. He was deaf, which my family and I
decided was something we were willing to work with as we had
already talked about the fact that our next rescue might be one
with special needs. I put an email in to Steve and the rest was
history. Steve just wanted to be sure this special guy got the
forever home he deserved. After many phone conversations, Steve
gave us the wonderful news that Tweak was ours if we wanted him,
and boy, did we! I joined the Deaf Dog group on Yahoo, read up
on whatever information on deaf dogs I could, and waited and
waited for the canine transportation company to make the trek
from Texas to Connecticut. |

Now that he is here, we can't imagine life without him. I had forgotten how energetic a youngster can be (He turned 1yr old on Feb. 22). He has boundless energy and gives more kisses that any dog we've ever had. He keeps us laughing with his antics. Tweak already knew a few sign language commands and we continue to teach him more. He is very eager to please and that makes training a breeze. The one point we were struggling with was how to get him to let us know when he had to go outside to do his business. We thought about hanging a bell from the doorknob, hoping we could teach him to ring it when necessary. But, he's a smart little guy and solved the problem for us. In the last two days he figured out that if he bumped the doorknob with his nose, an upright would come to see what was up. We'd let him outside, he'd do his stuff, and back in he'd come. Smart boy and no more "accidents". He still thinks he’s only 20 lbs, because his favorite place to be is in your lap. He loves to lay on the couch with his head in my lap for head scratches. He'll also climbs up onto my husband in his recliner and the two will snooze in the afternoon. A very funny picture. Once again we want to thank everyone at Texas Rescue, especially Steve, for allowing us to have our little knucklehead. This is truly a Happy Tail as Tweak will be loved and cared for the rest of his life. June, Greg, and Jarred Norma and the incredible Tweak |
